What to Know

A Celestial Encore: North America Awaits the 2024 Total Eclipse

You may remember the 2017 total eclipse in the U.S. that marked a rare and unforgettable moment in our lives, drawing widespread excitement and anticipation. Now, after the nationwide success of that groundbreaking event, many are eagerly planning for the upcoming 2024 total eclipse. Surpassing expectations, this time, the spectacle will grace all three countries of North America.

What to Expect on the Day of the Eclipse

Because the Moon lies a little closer to the Earth during totality in 2024 (compared to the totality in 2017), it will appear just a bit larger in the sky. That means it will take the Moon a bit longer to move in its orbit across the face of the Sun - allowing us to view the eclipse for a longer period of time. The sky will get darker, and there will be more time for watching, absorbing, celebrating, doing whatever experiments or performing whatever photographic sequences you might have planned!

Map of Totality

On April 8, 2024, we will witness a total eclipse of the sun, which is a rare and special event. Remember that you must use special eclipse safety glasses or viewers at all times during the partial phases of a total solar eclipse.
